A Call for a National Tax Strike

Taxpayers have the power and the duty to stop the killing in Iraq

Stop the Money to Stop the War

The most effective way of stopping war is to stop the money that pays for war.    All wars are started by governments, and democratic governments can’t do anything without your money.    If the UK and American Governments had had no money to pay the troops or purchase the weapons, to fly the bombers or train the soldiers, then they could not have fought the war with Iraq.   The time has come for taxpayers to take control of the nation’s destiny by stopping the money that funds the killing.

Join the National Tax Strike

Almost the only effective action open to individuals to control the actions of governments between elections is to withdraw financial co-operation.   Taxpayers are entirely within their rights to withhold all taxes from a government that uses them for illegal purposes.   As the invasion and occupation of Iraq is unquestionably illegal in domestic and international law, taxpayers are legally obliged to withhold all funds from the Government until the war is stopped, armed forces are withdrawn and those responsible for war crimes are prosecuted.

Taxpayers were deceived

The British Government raised money from taxpayers on the basis that it would be used for defence, but then they used it on a war of aggression.  This is a serious crime.  The Government used taxpayers’ funds to pay, train, arm and deploy Britain’s armed forces to invade and occupy Iraq and to attack and kill thousands of innocent men, women and children.   When you see pictures of the mutilated bodies of children, don’t forget that in the end this is down to taxpayers.   We have the blood of at least twenty thousand innocent Iraqis on our hands.    It was our money that paid for cruise missiles and rockets to be fired into Baghdad, it was our money that was used to drop a million or more cluster bombs in residential areas, maiming and killing children, and it was our money that paid for depleted uranium artillery shells to spread radio-active material throughout Iraq poisoning it for thousands of years to come.    The horrors of the Iraq war could not have taken place without the tacit consent of taxpayers.    Our Government deceived us into paying for the worst crimes of the twenty first century.    This alone is enough to justify a tax strike. ...read on
